Read it before they delete it

Thrillers in message form have one structural advantage over every other medium: the reader knows exactly as much as the person holding the phone, and not one word more. No cutaway to the antagonist, no dramatic irony, no camera in the other room. When something is wrong, you find out when they do.

The stories collected here use that. Chapters are short and end badly on purpose. Several rely on the reader noticing something the character has not; a name that has appeared before, a detail that does not match; which is a trick that only works when the entire text is dialogue and every word is therefore load-bearing.

Be warned that thrillers are the category most likely to be abandoned mid-serial, because sustaining tension across twenty chapters is genuinely hard. Sorting by rating is the fastest way to the ones that stuck the landing.
