When the thread has more than two people in it

Group is the smallest of the archive’s major categories and the most technically demanding, because a chat with four people in it is a chat where the writer has to make four voices distinguishable using nothing but word choice and timing. Most attempts fail at that. The ones collected here are the ones that did not.

What the format adds is the side conversation. A group thread implies the private threads running alongside it, and the better group sexting stories here use that: something is agreed in a direct message and surfaces in the group two chapters later, and the reader who was paying attention sees it coming while the other characters do not. It is dramatic irony reconstructed out of message metadata.

Fifty-odd stories, just under five chapters each. This is a category to sort by rating rather than by date — the volume is low enough that recency tells you very little, and the gap between a group story that works and one that does not is wider here than anywhere else in the archive.
